ScreenToast

Privacy

Last updated 4 October 2026

Your recordings never leave your Mac. ScreenToast records, edits and exports entirely on your computer. There is no account, no sign-in, no cloud, and no upload. We cannot see your recordings because they are never sent anywhere.

What we collect

From the app: nothing about you or your recordings. ScreenToast contains no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting and no usage tracking. We do not know how many times you open it or what you record.

From this website: the email address you give before downloading, an email if you leave one on a feature request, and cookie-free visit counts. Each is described in full below.

The times the app talks to the internet

Three are listed here, and the daily update check after them, because "we don't collect anything" is only meaningful if we also say what does leave the machine.

1. Buying a licence

Payment is handled by Dodo Payments, who act as Merchant of Record. Checkout happens on their site, in your browser. They collect the billing details a payment requires — name, email, address, tax region — and process the card. ScreenToast never sees or stores card details. Dodo's privacy policy governs that data: dodopayments.com/privacy.

2. Activating a licence

When you paste a licence key, the app sends that key and a machine name to Dodo so the three-Mac limit can be counted. That is the whole request. The key is then stored in your Mac's Keychain. Deactivating a Mac removes the seat.

3. Generating a voiceover — optional

Only if you use the voiceover feature, and only with an ElevenLabs API key you supply yourself. The text of the script you wrote is sent to ElevenLabs, which returns audio. Your video and your screen contents are never sent — only the words. Your API key is stored in your Keychain and used to talk to ElevenLabs directly; it never reaches us. ElevenLabs' privacy policy governs that text: elevenlabs.io/privacy.

Checking for updates

About once a day the app fetches appcast.xml from screentoast.com to see whether a newer version exists. This is an ordinary web request: our host records the IP address and app version, as any web server does. No identifier, licence key or usage data is attached, and you can turn the check off in the app. We count these checks per app version — that is how we know roughly how many copies are in use — using the same daily anonymous hash described below. The IP address itself is not kept.

This website

screentoast.com counts its own visits, without cookies and without any analytics company. When a page loads, or you click a download or buy button, open a FAQ question or scroll to a section, the page tells our own server which one. We also count DMG downloads from the download requests themselves.

Each record holds the event, the page, the country your connection comes from, the bare name of the site that linked you here (never the full address), and a visitor code made by hashing your IP address and browser name with a secret that changes every midnight. The code lets us count people rather than clicks, cannot be turned back into your IP, and is different the next day, so nobody can be followed from one visit to another. Nothing is stored in your browser except a per-tab note of which events were already counted (and, once you download, your email — see below). Records are deleted after 90 days. If your browser sends Do Not Track, the page sends nothing.

Your email, when you download

Before the download starts, the site asks for your email address. We keep the address, which button and page you downloaded from, the country your connection comes from, and when — so we know who is trying ScreenToast and can write to you about it. The address is used only for that. It is never sold or shared, and it is never sent to the app. This browser remembers the address so you are not asked again. To have it deleted, email support@screentoast.com.

Screen recording permission

macOS asks for Screen Recording, Microphone and Camera permission because a screen recorder cannot work without them. They are used only to capture what you asked to capture, while you are recording. You can revoke them at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

Your rights

The only personal data we hold is the email you gave when downloading (and, if you left one, on a feature request). Write to us and we will send you a copy or delete it. For the billing data Dodo holds, contact them, or write to us and we will pass it on.
